Artist Statement

My work functions as a lens through which I document experiences of acclimating to a foreign context while trying to keep in touch with my roots. The experience of moving from one country to another produces myriad emotions of uncertainty, curiosity and longing. The ambiguity that arises from the displacement of cultural context causes both physical and psychological challenges. My work is a reaction to this change. It pushes me to make internal changes that aid the desire for harmony. The familiarity that comes with using material that holds cultural significance acts as a “known” in the uncovering of the unknown.
