About the Artist
Eric Moore’s story doesn’t start like many established artists. Unlike many of his artistic peers, Moore has not been drawing and creating art since he was young. He began drawing and painting in his early twenties after being inspired by the live painters he saw at music and arts festivals while he was in college. Soon after he began to create his own art, he was asked to paint live at multiple festivals across the country where he sold original art and event posters for a number of years.
Following college, Moore succumbed to the economic reality of being an independent 20-something trying to make it in art. For the next five years, he put his artistic endeavors on hold while he established a successful corporate marketing career. After saving some money and settling down, he took a leap of faith and returned to his true passion.
Moore’s new body of work focuses on the emotive capacity of color through the interaction of perception, color and light. His contemporary color field paintings entail large swaths of saturated gradations that seamlessly transition from one color to the next, as well as sequences of concentric color bands that explore the multifaceted relationship between color, beauty and the viewer.
On a theoretical level, Moore favors the emotional impact of aesthetics over cerebral content. He aims to affect viewers viscerally rather than cognitively. His work embodies a minimalist ethos that doesn’t attempt to reference anything external. By transcending our commonly held language, Moore is creating the space for a contemplative personal experience of pure subjectivity and abstraction. Ultimately, Moore’s primary objective is simply to elicit a feeling of beauty by virtue of the work itself, rather than by virtue of what the work represents.
Beauty is my goal.
The unique human ability to experience beauty is a defining characteristic of our species. It is fundamental to the evolution of our consciousness. When we experience beauty, we feel it and it is precisely this feeling that I want to evoke in you.
Color is my subject.
Color is beautiful in and of itself. My paintings focus on this innate beauty and its ability to touch us on a deep a level. My paintings consist of large swaths of harmonious gradations and sequences of concentric colors that explore the multifaceted relationship between colors and the viewer. My work embodies a minimalist ethos that doesn’t attempt to reference or represent anything external. By transcending our commonly held language, I hope to create a space for direct and contemplative personal experiences of pure subjectivity.
Paint is my medium.
My medium of choice is acrylic paint and pigments. I make all my paint in-house, which allows me to use the finest pigments the world has to offer. I paint on a variety of surfaces, from canvas and paper to shaped aluminum. I use a variety of tools from brushes and rollers to spray guns and airbrushes. I utilize every technological advantage I can get my hands on, from computers and digital tools to industrial machines.
